Rosie is an accredited Garden Club Judge with many years of experience,
a life member of GCFP and National Garden Clubs, a past director of
District II/III, and a graduate of Moravian College. She will explain and
discuss how to be successful when entering a flower show, and she will
give you a Preview of our show as we “stroll through our century”
together. With our Fall Flower Show coming up this is a program you
don’t want to miss.

“Women’s Land Army 1918”
Elaine Weiss
As part of our 100th anniversary celebration Elaine Weiss, a journalist whose
work has appeared in many popular publications, will present a program
about a fascinating chapter in our history: The Women’s Land Army in the
Great War, covering the “farmettes” who joined America’s Land Army to feed
the nation during World War I.
SHOW OF THE MONTH
Design: Angular Design – Angles are not limited to one type
(acute, obtuse, right angle). Contrast is essential to design.
Horticulture: Ornamental Grasses – Grasses having distinctive leaf
structure, patterned or colored foliage or decorative seed head.

“Seeing and Talking about Gardens”
Wayne Guymon, PhD
Dr. Guymon is a graduate of Columbia College in NY and has a Masters and
PhD from Columbia University. He is a past president of the Hosta Society
and an avid collector of plants and shrubs. He retired in 2004 to become a
full-time gardener at his ten-acre property in Chadds Ford, “WynEden.” He
will review the history and basic principles of Semiotics, and will provide the
tools that will help us to understand more clearly what makes a garden
scene work.

“Japanese Design in your Garden”
Robert Stampler, PhD
Dr. Stampler is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn
State; he has a PhD in Zoology. He has been an active gardener for over
50 years and has dedicated most of that time to growing rhododendrons,
azaleas, perennials and native plants, and Japanese style gardens. He
will take us on a trip to Japan and will show us how to use Japanese
designs in our gardens.
